The Service of the Sacrament

On the first, third and fifth Sundays we celebrate the Service of the Sacrament.

The Lord's Supper is celebrated at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the glad confidence that our Savior Jesus gives into our mouths, not only bread and wine, but His very body and blood to eat and to drink for the forgiveness of our sins, and to strengthen our union with Him and with one another.  Our Lord invites to His table those who trust His words, repent of all sins, and set aside any refusal to forgive and love as He forgives and loves us.  In preparation for coming to the Lord's table, one should ask himself/herself these questions:

  • Do I believe that I am a sinner both by nature and by choice?
  • Am I truly sorry for my sins?
  • Do I believe that God forgives my sins through Jesus Christ alone?
  • Do I intend, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to make the needed changes in my sinful life?
  • Do I believe that I receive the body and blood of Jesus in, with and under the bread and wine?
